Jammu & Kashmir and Border Areas Experience First Peaceful Night in Days, Says Indian Army

Jammu & Kashmir: The Indian Army confirmed on May 12 that Jammu and Kashmir and other border areas had their “first peaceful night” since the fighting started. There were no new incidents or ceasefire violations reported because Pakistan stuck to the agreement after India warned them of harsh punishments for any further violations.

People in the Jammu region, including the highly affected areas of Poonch and Rajouri, had a quiet night without the sounds of planes, missile strikes, and drones for the first time in several days. The calm gave people much-needed relief and let them get back to their daily lives.

The night passed without incident

“In Jammu and Kashmir and other places along the international border, the night was mostly calm.” “There have been no reports of any problems, making this the first peaceful night in a few days,” the Indian Army said.

Notably, tensions between the two neighbors rose after the Indian military launched targeted strikes on Wednesday against terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This was in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that killed 26 people, mostly tourists.

India and Pakistan formally agreed to ceasefire terms

India and Pakistan agreed to stop fighting along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border on Saturday. This came after the Indian Armed Forces attacked terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which made things more tense.

Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) from both countries decided to stop all military action on land, in the air, and at sea at 5 p.m. on Saturday, according to Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.

An Overview of Operation Sindoor

Early on May 7, the Indian Armed Forces started Operation Sindoor. They attacked nine terror hubs in Pakistan and the part of Kashmir that Pakistan controls. Some of these were the base of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke and the capital of Jaish-e-Mohammad in Bahawalpur. As part of “Operation Sindoor,” 26 innocent people were brutally killed in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, two weeks before the operation.

This well-planned action was a direct response to the brutal terror attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which killed 26 civilians, one of whom was from Nepal.

As a result of these strikes, tensions between India and Pakistan rose sharply, with Pakistan increasing shelling across the border and Indian forces quickly responding.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed on Saturday that the Director General of Military Operations of Pakistan had talked to his Indian counterpart and both agreed to stop all military operations.

Misri said that orders have been sent to enforce the ceasefire and that more talks at the DGMO level are planned for May 12 at noon.

PM Modi: Return of PoK Is Non-Negotiable in Talks with Pakistan

According to India TV, Sources say that on Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi told US Vice President JD Vance that the only thing that needs to be worked out with the neighboring country is the return of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). They were talking about a de-escalation deal.

Sources say that Modi made it clear that talks with Pakistan would only happen if they were about handing over terrorists.

“Our position on Kashmir is very clear.” All that’s left is for Pakistan to give back Kashmir, which it has been occupying. We have nothing else to talk about. We are willing to talk about giving criminals over if they want to. “I don’t want to talk about anything else,” Modi is said to have told Vance.
